Philosophy

What I am looking for is a real connection. I want to give the horse the opportunity to choose to be with me and to listen to me. I want him to be a willing participant in his work. I want to grow his confidence and spirit, not break it. I believe that the key to achieving this is by building a relationship based on clear, compassionate communication

In order to ride a horse or do anything with a horse you have to make a relationship with the horse. In order to make a relationship with someone you have to do stuff together. Whether we realise it or not we are always building this relationship with our horses. Relationships can be short lived or last a lifetime. They can be good but they can also be bad. I want to help people to become more aware of this, and purposefully build better relationships with their horses. Read more.

Are you ready for this?

This kind of work with horses is actually so easy, and so easy to feel good about. Communicating in this way with your horse can make a huge difference to everything you do with them. If you want to learn more, contact me.

Intent is everything

In this video I begin to explain intent and how it applies to my work. At the end I show two examples of some basic exercises I do with horses, which show intent at work. Even though I am not actually teaching you how to do the exercises in detail, try using intent first when you do basic things with your horses, like going around behind them as I did in the video, picking up their feet, and moving from one side of them to the other. It’s as simple as asking mentally first before giving any aids or cues. Intent is important if you want an actual relationship with your horses. By actual, I mean built on connection and a mutual understanding. Your relationships can be dulled down when cues, treats, and other aids are used without first asking with intent.
